The Fermentation School is a women-owned and women-led education company offering online culinary and food system classes while providing opportunities for female knowledge-bearers. The company mission is to amplify the voices of independent educators to empower learning and build culture.

The Fermentation School was co-founded in 2021 by Meredith Leigh and Kirsten Shockey in recognition of the power of collaboration to forward accessible education and well-being. The School also formed in response to the gap in fair payment for independent educators, and an imbalance in mainstream acknowledgement for the role of women in food preservation, both historically and in the present.

The Fermentation School offers online classes to students in over 63 different countries, with classes in English and Spanish. The community of female Creators who contribute to the project has 35 members from all over the world, and continues to grow. Future plans include in-person conferences and events as well as more online offerings.

The Fermentation School is a Public Benefits Corporation that returns 90% of all revenue to women educators.
